FACTS ABOUT TANEY YOUTH BASEBALL ASSOCIATION

Where: Games are usually scheduled at Taney (Markward) Recreation Center at Taney & Pine Streets (near 26th & Pine), Shot Tower Recreation Center on Front & Carpenter Streets, Palumbo Recreation Center at 10th & Fitzwater Streets, and at Starr Garden at 6th & Lombard Streets

What:   Coed youth baseball is offered for children aged 3 to 12, age as of August 1, 2005.
Pee Wee Tee-Ball: ages 3-4 (bat off tee) - Sunday mornings at Taney Field (no practices)
Tee-Ball: ages 5-6 (bat off tee) - games on weekends; 1 evening practice per week
AAA Baseball: ages 7-8 (2 innings of player pitch, 3 innings pitching machine; hardball)
Minor League: ages 9-10 (player pitch hardball)

Major League: ages 11-12 (player pitch hardball)

2005 Season begins on April 9th and ends on June 18th (rain date June 19th), including playoffs, championship games, and All-Star games

Tryouts (mandatory for all baseball players) will be held February 19& 20, 2005 at Friends Select School (17th & the Parkway) for registered players ages 7-12 (as of August 1, 2005). Times will be announced. All seven year old players are encouraged to try out for baseball.

Practices   are held at various fields in the City. Baseball teams practice either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday evenings; Tee-ball teams practice one evening per week. Weekend practices for baseball and tee-ball teams are also likely.

Registration fee is set at $70.00 per player, so that all children, regardless of financial circumstances, will have the opportunity to participate. There is an �Early Bird Discount� of $10.00 if the application is received by 2/16/05, and a discount of $10.00 for each additional child in the same family. Financial support comes from business and individual sponsors and donors. Families are not asked to become involved in fund-raising activities during the season.

Uniforms:  All players are issued uniforms; Players may keep team jerseys and caps.

Coaches & Managers  All coaches and managers attend Training Clinics with Mike Bucci, former Major League player, coach, and scout, and Coordinator of the summer Phillies Youth Baseball Camps. Mike also offers advanced coaching clinics, pitching clinics for players, and Tee-ball clinics.

Trophies:  All players receive trophies, with special recognition for the championship and second-place teams in baseball leagues.

 Smoking and alcoholic beverages are not permitted at games, practices, or league activities.

Umpires:  Professional umpires are hired for baseball games other than T-Ball.

Emphasis:  Our emphasis is on fun, instruction, good sportsmanship and teamwork as opposed to an emphasis on competition and scores.

Tournament Teams are available (by try-outs only) for July interstate competition.
