It is time for baseball and softball evaluations, where coaches can see players try out, and we can balance teams.  All registered players will be placed on a team; evaluations are to help in assembling evenly talented teams.

 

Evaluations are scheduled for Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21, 2010.  Evaluations are REQUIRED for girls and boys (baseball and softball) who will be ages 7 to 15 as of April 30, 2010.  TEE-BALL PLAYERS (ages 6 and under) do not need to attend

Taney Youth Baseball Association is delighted to announce our Second Annual Baseball Equipment Swap!

Do you have old baseball gear lying around the house - things your child has outgrown or no longer uses? Maybe cleats, or bats, baseball gloves, even an equipment bag? Could your child use a pair of cleats, but are you hesitant to buy a brand-new pair that will be outgrown in a few months? Would you like to have a "broken-in" glove without the hassle of breaking it in yourself? Want to clean out your house and donate your old equipment in exchange for replacements you can really use?

Please bring new or gently-used baseball stuff to tryouts on February 20 or 21 (any time from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.), or to the Parent Orientation on February 27 at 2:00 p.m. We'll have tables set up for your donations. We'll also have other baseball equipment there, donated by Taney Baseball and TYBA families. Please help yourself to whatever your family needs. There is no fee for this event and no requirement to donate equipment to "swap" in order to take something home. If you see something you like, it's yours! All Taney families are welcome to participate.

Pee Wee and Tee-ball enrollments are at record levels. In 2010, teams will be assigned to one of the following fields for practices and games:

  • “Taney” (Markward) at Taney & Pine
  • Palumbo at 9th & Fitzwater
  • Columbus Square at 12th & Wharton.

We regret that we cannot honor requests for a particular field. In addition, Tee-ball teams play their final game(s) on a full-sized baseball diamond, which might be at any one of the many city fields which TYBA uses.

Softball is now available for girls of ages 9-13 as of April 30, 2010.
 
We are looking for this year to be our best outing yet.
 
Last year saw our first opportunity to play against teams from other leagues, and the girls from Taney represented us well.

We are hoping to recruit enough players to have enough teams for an intramural program as well as some games against outside leagues. In order to make this happen, we need your help.
 
Please register as soon as it is available, and have your players ask their friends and classmates to join our program as well.

Congratulations to our 2009 TYBA Tournament teams, who played interstate tournaments last summer.

Some quick highlights: The 12's made the finals at Moorestown as well as two semi-finals. They also spent a week at Cooperstown Baseball World.
 
The 11's WON Gloucester Township, and the 9's were at least semi-finalists in ALL tournaments entered. They made the finals in Burlington and WON the Southhampton tournament.

Congratulations to the Thunder (13-15 team) for winning the championship at the Sabres League in South Philadelphia!

For 2010, TYBA plans to send two or three teams of players who are 13-15 to play at Sabres. Taney players will have the opportunity to continue to play on a team with other Taney kids, coached by Taney coaches.
